Research
The Ehlman Lab is grounded in evolutionary behavioral ecology. We use a combination of lab-, field-, and theory-based approaches to understand how ecological and evolutionary forces shape animal behavior and its development. We are particularly excited by the use of new technologies (tracking technology, AI, machine learning, etc.) to map behavioral repertoires and their development in a range of ecological scenarios. Areas of particular interest include phenotypic plasticity, behavioral individuality, and behavioral responses to environmental change, and most of our lab- and field-based studies investigate these topics in aquatic systems, tending to focus on Poeciliid fish species (e.g., Trinidadian guppies, Amazon mollies, sailfin mollies).
