Sarah Aly

Sarah Aly is a PhD student in Comparative Literature at the University of South Carolina. Originally from Alexandria, Egypt, she earned her BA in English Language and Literature (2020) and her MA in English Literature (2025) from Alexandria University. In 2023–2024, she was selected as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant and taught Arabic at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. During her MA studies, she also spent a semester at the University of the Aegean in Lesvos, Greece, as an Erasmus exchange student. She currently teaches beginner Arabic, specifically the Egyptian register, at the University of South Carolina, where she serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Her research interests include English and Arabic literature, Geocriticism, and the representation of space and place in literature. She is particularly interested in postmodern conceptions of temporality and experience, as well as theoretical frameworks such as deconstruction in examining representations of home and identity.
