Hannah Nhyira Frimpomaa

From Ghana, Hannah Frimpomaa Nhyira received her Bachelor of Arts in French and Spanish from the University of Ghana, Legon in 2021, and after, served as a research assistant for the Centre for Latin American Studies under Dr. Joanna Boampong. She completed her MA in Spanish from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 2024. After teaching elementary and intermediate Spanish and French, she is currently a PhD student in Comparative Literature at USC, where she teaches beginner French language courses. Her research interests encompass postcolonial, Afro-Caribbean, and Latinx literatures, as well as translation studies, with a particular focus on how language, identity, and colonial histories shape cultural production.

She has presented papers on “Popcorn Picking in the Language Classroom: A Communicative Approach to Lessening Language Apprehension” at Augusta University, highlighting innovative strategies for fostering student participation and confidence in language learning. Her other interests include language learning and acquisition, particularly approaches that enhance learner engagement and reduce affective barriers. Her current projects examine the intersections of race, coloniality, and language in 19th- and 20th-century literary and cultural texts, emphasizing how literature both reflects and reshapes social and political understandings of identity.
