Kimberly is a PhD student focusing on Women and Gender Studies in the American South during the Reconstruction Era. Her research is focused specifically on the reproductive rights of women. She holds a master's degree from the College of Charleston and The Citadel and wrote her thesis on a nineteenth century legal case centering on issues of reproduction. This work earned her the Outstanding Student Award for her graduate program.

Kimberly has also worked as a local historical interpreter focusing on the Lowcountry of South Carolina and the Gullah community. As well as currently assisting with an oral history project and research for the Mather Interpretive Center in Beaufort, SC.
