Statement about work and research interests

Minuette Floyd’s current research focuses on the continent of Africa, examining stereotypes and misconceptions. This led to her interest in leading study abroad experiential courses to London, South Africa and Ghana, West Africa for USC students. She is currently working on publications on this topic. She continues to focus her research efforts on ethnographic methods coupled with photography and video to document African American camp meeting traditions, while receiving funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, South Carolina Arts Commission, and the South Carolina Humanities Council. Her photographs of African American camp meetings have been displayed at the Martha’s Vineyard History Museum (MA), Charlotte Museum of History (NC), the Methodist Center, St Simons Island, (GA), and the McKissick Museum at USC.
