Background
Murray Cohn joined the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management at the University of South Carolina as an executive in residence in fall 2024. Cohn is the president and owner of MC Sports Sales Training & Consulting Inc., where he has been increasing revenue for sports and entertainment organizations since 2015. He provides strategic business planning, sales training and recruiting services to over 200 sports and entertainment properties. His clients include teams across major leagues such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and MLS, as well as entertainment partners like Feld Entertainment and the Harlem Globetrotters.
Prior to founding his company, Cohn served as senior vice president of ticket sales for the Alliance of American Football. In this role, he built the league’s sales infrastructure, developed strategic plans and secured national partnerships to boost ticket sales. He also recruited key executives and sales staff, shaping the league’s talent and sales strategies.
Cohn spent over seven years at the National Basketball Association, where he held roles including vice president of team ticket sales. He consulted with NBA teams to improve ticket sales through strategy development, training and recruiting. During his tenure, the league achieved record attendance, revenue and season ticket sales.
Earlier in his career, Cohn was senior director of ticket sales for the Orlando Magic, leading the department to record-breaking revenue and attendance growth. He also served as NBA director of group sales, increasing group sales revenue across the NBA, WNBA and NBDL. His achievements include setting league-wide sales records and earning multiple NBA awards.
Cohn has also been an adjunct professor at Linfield University since 2020, teaching a master’s level course in sales and sport marketing leadership.
