The University of South Carolina College of Nursing became the state’s first nationally accredited nursing program in 1957. Since then, we’ve been a leader in improving the quality and accessibility of health care in the state, nation and world.

Innovating Clinical Education

The College of Nursing has partnered with local health care providers to address the shortage of nurses across South Carolina. Within two campuses, including the new 52,000-square-foot Clinical Education Building at Lexington Medical Center, students train in the latest patient care practices with experienced professionals in real world clinical settings and innovative hands-on simulation facilities.

The Science of Nursing

In addition to a range of research options for undergraduate students, our Office of Research helps develop faculty and Ph.D. students as scientists and scholars. In the past 10 years, faculty members have generated more than $15.4 million in new research and grant awards. Field-level university researchers are also exploring the demands of high-stress occupations so nurses can enjoy more fulfilling, long-term careers.
