Access to Student Data Dashboards

Access to dashboards is based on job duties or other demonstrated need, and requires review of the USC policies regarding data access, information security, handling of student records, and responsible use of data, technology, and user credentials.

Instructions for Downloading Dashboard Reports

To open a dashboard, click on your selection and the dashboard will download to your browser’s download preference directory as a .mht file. Once downloaded, open the file using the Cognos Analytics Active Report Viewer. You can download the Cognos Analytics Active Report Viewer via IBM Cognos Analytics. You do not need to the Cognos Analytics server to use this tool. 

Dashboard Functionality

When a dashboard opens (it may take several seconds), select filter(s) to display aggregate records of student participation in Beyond The Classroom Matters cataloged Engagements. Select and de-select multiple criteria in each filter, using Ctrl+Click. 

Catalog of recorded Engagements is under development, so dashboards do not yet report all Engagements provided by the university.

Experiential Learning Engagements – All Participation Records

Displays: EL Type, EL Status, Campus Label, and Classification of student participants 
This dashboard reports all records of student participation in Experiential Learning Engagements. A student may have multiple records of participation represented in the display. Classification is recorded at the time of a student's participation in each recorded Engagement. EL records in the current Term will display as "In Progress".

Experiential Learning Engagements - Participant Characteristics by Term

Displays: Admission Status, Race, Gender, First Generation Status, and PELL Status
This dashboard reports characteristics of distinct students with records of Experiential Learning Engagements; each student's characteristics are represented only once. A Term must be selected for accurate display of participant characteristics.

Experiential Learning Engagements – Participant Characteristics by Engagement/Term

Displays: Admissions Status, Race, Gender, First Generation Status, PELL Status, and Classification
This dashboard reports characteristics of students in a single Experiential Learning Engagement in a specified Term. A Term and Engagement Label must be selected for accurate display of participant characteristics.

All Engagements – Participant Characteristics by Engagement/Term

Displays: Admissions Status, Race, Gender, First Generation Status, PELL Status, and Classification
This dashboard reports characteristics of students in a single Engagement in a specified Term. A Term and Engagement Label must be selected for accurate display of participant characteristics.
