What to Expect

You won’t need to bring much for your session, but a few essentials will help you make the most of your Orientation experience.

What to Bring

  • You will use this to access USC’s WiFi and accounts.

  • You will need this to pick up your CarolinaCard.

  • This will be emailed to you a week prior to your scheduled Orientation session.

  • During New Student Orientation, all students will stay overnight in Patterson Hall, a suite-style residence hall with double rooms and a shared bathroom between suites. You’ll have a roommate during your session, so pack a few essentials: bedding (sheets, blanket, or sleeping bag), a pillow and towels and toiletries like soap, toothpaste and a hair dryer.

  • Orientation is a rain or shine program, so be prepared with comfortable shoes and clothing for two days, as well as a light rain jacket or umbrella. You can also wear comfortable clothes for evening activities.

  • We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle and chargers for your electronic devices to stay refreshed and connected during your Orientation session.

  • USC is committed to providing access and support to individuals experiencing basic need insecurities. Learn more about our Gamecock CommUnity Shop and what to bring here.

When You Arrive

When you get to campus, we’ll guide you through parking, residence hall check-in and Orientation check-in. Be sure to watch your email for additional instructions specific to your session.

  • You’ll park in the Bull Street Garage (611 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29208) during your session. Parking is already covered in your Orientation registration fee, so there’s no need to pay when you arrive. Just remember to print your parking pass and place it on your dashboard before heading to campus.

  • Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. on Day One in the Patterson Hall Courtyard, right across from the parking garage. Have your QR code (sent to your email) ready to scan when you arrive. Once checked in, you’ll head into Patterson Hall to drop off your luggage.

  • If you registered for an additional night in the residence hall before your New Student Orientation, check-in will be available after 5:00 p.m. When checking out after your extended stay, please do so before 8:30 a.m.
